Why Choose the 'S' Mark?Back to top
The 'S' Mark is an internationally recognised, truly independent product certification mark that assures engineers, building inspectors and users, compliance with relevant standards.
EuroSteel branded reinforcing bar is the only rebar in the New Zealand market to carry the 'S'Mark. With EuroSteel rebar you can quickly and easily reassure structural engineers and inspectors of 100% compliance with AS/NZ4671:2001 Steel Reinforcing Materials.
Maintaining the 'S' Mark certification achieved by our EuroSteel rebar, means having our product regularly tested by an independent organisation to make sure it will consistently perform as required.
Our 'S' Mark certification covers both Grades 300E mild steel and 500E high tensile reinforcing bar.
'S' Mark Licence No: 2655, was granted 9 October 2006 by Bureau Veritas New Zealand, www.bureauveritas.co.nz
Micro Alloy ProcessBack to top
Grade 500E high tensile reinforcing bar sold in New Zealand is either manufactured via the Quench Temper (QT) process or the superior Micro Alloy (MA) process.
All EuroSteel branded Grade 500E rebar is the superior MA product. The letters 'MA' are clearly marked on each Grade 500E bar.
The Micro Alloy (MA) process uses the addition of alloys such as Vanadium to achieve the required strength and ductility required in many applications. This is especially important in relation to New Zealand's demanding seismic structural design requirements.
It is widely recognised by structural engineers that MA manufactured rebar has major advantages over QT product and for this reason many prefer it.
A key difference is that MA reinforcing bar, of 16mm or less, can be rebent and welded under strict conditions, whereas QT bars are unable to be rebent or welded under any circumstances – refer to the Department of Building and Housing Practice Advisory 7, issued in July 2005.
Bar MarkingsBack to top
EuroSteel bars are marked in accordance with AS/NZS 4671:2001. Bar markings identify strength, grade and ductility class by the following surface features on the bars at 1 metre intervals.
EuroSteel product exceeds the requirements of the standard by also alphanumerically marking the bars 300E or 500E at 1 metre intervals.

Bar Colour CodingBack to top
EuroSteel 6 metre product is painted at each end of the bars to provide easy identification as follows:
Grade 300E Mild Grade 500E High Tensile
| Code | Colour | Code | Colour | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| D10-300E | Blue | D10-500E | Pink | |
| D12-300E | Yellow | D12-500E | Pink | |
| D16-300E | Green | D16-500E | Pink | |
| D20-300E | White | D20-500E | Pink |

Mesh HandbookBack to top
Reinforcing mesh is extensively used in a wide range of construction applications from driveways to building foundations. The primary role of mesh in design is to control cracking in concrete structures.
Please refer to the mesh specifications table for details on our EuroSteel mesh range.
